Webb Memorial Children's Park Ground Breaking Ceremony

A ground breaking ceremony was held Friday, March 1 for the Webb Memorial Children’s Park on the campus of the Center for Nonprofits @ St. Mary’s in Rogers.  The ceremony was emceed by Dick Trammel and included special remarks by Jones Trust trustee Dennis Smiley, Rogers Mayor Greg Hines and Charles Mary Phillippy.   The Webb Memorial Children’s Park will be built on the site of the former residence of Charles and Mary Ila Webb.  The Webb’s daughter, Charles Mary Phillippy, was there with her husband, daughter and grandchildren to celebrate the new playground.

According to a Board Member of the Jones Trust, “We have over 40 nonprofit organizations located at The Center for Nonprofits @ St. Mary’s providing essential health, education and human services to the people living in this region, many of whom are low income with few resources.  We estimate over 500,000 visitors come to the Center annually, and these organizations have a major impact in the region, serving those in need.  Many of the folks who come here for these services are children or are parents who bring their children with them.  This playground will be a great place for these kids to play, and will also serve as a community playground for the families living in Rogers.”

The Webbs were longtime residents of the city, where Charles was active in civic affairs, such as the Chairman of the Rogers City Planning Commission and owned a successful insurance agency in the city.  Mary Ila was a well-known and respected educator with the Rogers Public School System.
